Friday’s visit to Atlanta ended on a much happier note than it typically has for the Nuggets; they hadn’t won a game in Atlanta since March of 2011.
The 105-100 win for the Nuggets snapped a four-game losing streak to the Hawks and was their first road win of the season. It stopped a five-game skid in Atlanta.
The win came on Paul Millsap’s homecoming game against his former team; he spent the past four seasons there before moving to the Mile High City. He scored 16 points and added six rebounds, including a solid 4th quarter to seal the win.
Gary Harris added 18 points, and Nikola Jokic had 18 points with 15 rebounds.
The story of the game was the play of the bench, as Emmanuel Mudiay had his best game of the young season. He finished with 16 points, four rebounds, four assists — and best of all — no turnovers. Will Barton added 18 points from the bench and Mason Plumlee and Kenneth Faried brought energy, as always.
As for the Hawks, Dennis Schroeder returned from a two-game absence (ankle). He has success penetrating Denver defense and pressured their guards on the offensive end, finishing He finished with 20 points, six assists and three rebounds. Taurean Prince added 19 points and seven rebounds.
Denver (2-3) now heads to the Barclays Center to play the Brooklyn Nets (3-3) for their third game on their four-game road trip Sunday. Brooklyn is coming off of a 107-86 blowout to the New York Knicks.
