Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the league, nobody was worried about the two worst teams in the AFC. The Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos, two once proud teams, are now just a symbol of failed hopes and dreams.
It will be a long flight back to the Mile High City, after yet another disappointing performance by the Broncos Monday night. Denver was absolutely embarrassed by the lowly Raiders on Monday Night Football, falling 27-14 in the Christmas Eve showdown. After losing for a third straight week, the Broncos will officially have back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 1972.
Denver gave up a 99-yard punt return less than 5 minutes into the first quarter and the Broncos were never really competitive after. The Broncos committed 12 penalties for over 100 yards, turned the football over twice and struggled to get any kind of momentum on either side of the football.
While Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was nothing special, the veteran controlled the pace of play and allowed running back Doug Martin do the rest. Carr completed 19-of-26 pass attempts and continued his streak of 325 passes without an interception. On the ground, Doug Martin carried the ball 21 times for 107 yards and a touchdown.
The Broncos will conclude the 2018 NFL season against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
