In the rematch of the 2016 PAC-12 championship game, the Colorado Buffaloes (3-1) fell once again at the hands of a superior (#6/#6) Washington Huskies (4-0) team. CU trailed by just three at halftime, but the second half was all Washington, and the Huskies cruised to a 37-10 blowout.
The best moments came for Colorado on the first drive of the game. RS-SO QB Steven Montez led the Buffs 75 yards down the field on 11 plays, and capped it off with a touchdown from RS-SR RB Phil Lindsay. It would be the lone touchdown of the evening for the Buffs, who would go on to hold their own for the rest of the first half.
Colorado’s defense shined brightest by continually giving their offense chances to swing the momentum back, but the Buffaloes were unable to capitalize on some good fortune and a few big stops. The figurative door was slammed shut early in the third quarter as the Buffs were backed up deep in their own end. An ill-advised throw from Montez on a quick slant led to UW’s third interception of the game, this one returned for a touchdown. It was the first ‘Power-5’ test for CU, who finished a four-game stretch to open the season playing in the state of Colorado.
Next week, the Buffs will have to pack it up and take it on the road for the first time, as they travel to the Rose Bowl, where JR QB Josh Rosen and the UCLA Bruins (2-2) will seek redemption for last year’s loss. Kickoff is slated for 8:30 PM MT, Saturday, Sept. 30th on ESPN2.
