Former Denver Broncos offensive and defensive lineman Matt McChesney, who also played for the Jets and Dolphins, has an understandable dislike for the New England Patriots.
“I played for the three fan bases that probably hate that team more than anyone,” he told Josh Dover and Adam Kinney on Mile High Sports AM 1340 on Friday.
And now that he’s observing from off the field, McChesney says he’s openly rooting for the Patriots to lose. Like so many fans, and what appears to be a growing number of those with direct ties to the NFL, he’s ready for the Patriots and their alleged cheating ways to just go away.
In his interview with Dover and Kinney, McChesney points out the perceived culture of cheating that surrounds the Patriots, one that reared its ugly head again in Thursday’s NFL season opener when the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers started to receive interference from the Patriots radio broadcast in their coaches headsets mid-game.
McChesney is equally frustrated with Roger Goodell’s poor leadership, which included being a no-show at the Patriots’ Super Bowl trophy ceremony that took place before the game against Pittsburgh.
“He’s a coward,” says the veteran.
Together, the Patriots and Goodell made Thursday’s NFL kickoff an unceremonious, even tainted, one in McChesney’s eyes.
