Peter Barton Stadium is set to host a dynamic matchup between No. 5 University of Denver and No. 1 University of Notre Dame. Each team has something different to prove. The Irish look to establish themselves as the best team in the nation, while the Pioneers are striving to bounce back after last week’s loss to North Carolina. The loss cost Denver its own No. 1 ranking.
The two teams have created a dramatic history with six of their past seven games being decided by one goal. Of those six, four have been settled in overtime.
The battle between these two college lacrosse powerhouses will feature two different approaches to the game: Notre Dame being a defensive, grounded team while Denver builds its success off a high-powered offense.
The Fighting Irish are currently ranked second in goals allowed, with 6.33 per game. On the other side, the Pioneers are averaging 13.6 goals per game. The likes of Denver’s Connor Cannizzaro and Ethan Walker will square up with Notre Dame’s star defenseman Garrett Epple and company in key showdowns on the Irish defensive side.
With the new top team in the nation, Notre Dame, coming into the house of the previous No. 1 team, Denver, the stage is set for another in Mile High. The two will face off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 12 at Denver’s Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
