Domata Peko is a massive man able to dominate would-be blockers from the middle of the defensive line.
And, while the Denver Broncos already had a superb set of pass-rushers, they’ve loaded up even more with Bradley Chubb specifically, this offseason.
Speaking with Eric Goodman of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7, Peko says depth is important to have for a successful football team.
“Were really deep man. That’s what you need,” said Peko. “You need to have a deep defensive line to go the long haul. Because you never know when someone goes down. You got to have that depth so that they can step right in and fill in those holes.”
Of course, the other side of the coin when it comes to depth is competition, and Peko is excited for that competition on the D-line.
“It’s really good, man, because were all competing as well,” Peko continued. “Everyone’s good and you can’t take a day off. You’ve got to go out there and bust your butt every day and try and get better. It’s really good competition.”
Chubb is expected to play a big role for the Broncos this year, and, considering they’re at the closed practices of OTAs, Peko’s evaluation of the rookie is key information.
“I like what I see,” said Peko. “Super quick off the ball, but not only that, he’s really strong and stout. That’s what you really want to see as an edge rusher. I’m really excited to see what he’s going to do for us this year, and lining up opposite sides of Von, it’s going to be super awesome. We got better this offseason with the addition of Chubb.”
Like the players on the offense, Peko is looking forward to having one quarterback lead the team this year, in Case Keenum.
“Yeah and everyone knows how he looks,” Peko continued. “Last year he won 13 games with the Vikings, hell of a competitor, and he’s a veteran guy. It’s not like he’s a young dude trying to step in and prove himself. He’s already a proven guy, and I’m really excited to see what he does for us this year. He’s a great player for us.”
