Hayden Hunt can punt!
Of course, that’s not all he can do. This year he’s converted two fourth downs punt fakes. And on Saturday, Hunt was nearly the hero, successfully bouncing two onside kicks into the awaiting hands of his teammates as Colorado State nearly rallied to knock off No. 15 Boise State at home.

For his stellar play this Saturday, Hunt has been named the Ray Guy Award punter of the week, the second time this season CSU’s All-American has been awarded the honor.
Besides those awesome onside kicks — he went 2-3 in converting those near the end of the contest — Hunt punted seven times for a total of 307 yards, or a 43.9 yard per boot average. His longest punt traveled an amazing 59 yards and four of them were placed within the Broncos’ 20-yard line.
Yes, it was a wild and wacky finish for the Rams at Boise State last Saturday, and most of it couldn’t have happened without Hunt.
“That just doesn’t happen, to be honest,” CSU’s senior punter said of his team getting the ball back after two successful onside kicks.
Last season, Hunt was a finalist for the Ray Guy Award, which is given to the nation’s top punter. He was edged out by Tom Hackett of the Utah Utes, who was a senior this year. Seven weeks into the season, Hunt has two weekly Ray Guy Awards to his name and he’s likely hoping to take home the punter of the year at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, his Rams are currently 3-4, 1-2 MW after their 28-23 loss to Boise last weekend. This Saturday presents another road test, at UNLV (3-4) with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. MT and the game will be televised on ROOT Sports Rocky Mountain.
