Week 1 of the 2016 college football season produced some big wins (and some surprising losses) for teams hailing from the Pac-12, but none was bigger in terms of setting the tone for the season than Colorado’s 44-7 win over Colorado State. And no one played bigger in that game than CU quarterback and captain Sefo Liufau.
The senior from Tacoma, Wash. not only broke the school’s all-time passing record in the victory, he also took home Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance against the Rams.

Liufau was 23-of-33 passing for 318 yards and a touchdown. He also accounted for 66 yards on the ground. The senior captain also passed Cody Hawkins for most total plays in a Colorado uniform.
The award was the first Pac-12 Player of the Week award for a Buffalo since Kenneth Olugbode took home defensive honors the week of Sept. 21, 2015. It was Liufau’s first conference honor.
Next up for Liufau on the Colorado all-time leaderboard is the school touchdowns mark. He needs 11 to pass Hawkins for that honor as well.
