Awhile after the last cars had filed out of UC Health Training Center Wednesday afternoon, Pola Nye stands waiting with her football.
She is on the hunt for Tyler Polumbus, hoping to get a signature. It’s not that she is a huge fan of the 6-foot-8 tackle, but his signature would complete the football she is holding. Nye has collected a signature from every other member of the 2016 Broncos squad.
“I try to get everybody,” Nye said. “There’s times they get injured and I miss them on a certain day, but I usually get everybody.”
Nye has been doing this for 19 years — since John Elway led Denver to their first Super Bowl victory. She has a football full of signatures for every single year in between that Super Bowl and Super Bowl 50.
“It started when they won their first Super Bowl,” Nye said. “I thought it was good luck so I just kept doing it.”
Although Nye could get a pretty big sum of money for any of those balls on Ebay, she says that’s not why she does it.
“I’ll never sell them. It’s just not who I am.”
So next time you are at Broncos training camp, keep a look out for the lady with the marker-covered football, because she’s at every single one. She is as true a fan as they come.
