When National Signing Day comes to a close the Colorado Buffaloes won’t rank as highly as the Ohio State Buckeyes in terms of their overall recruiting class – but Mike MacIntyre can claim a big win over Urban Meyer in landing Colorado’s top recruit, Jake Moretti. MacIntyre spoke with Pac-12 Netowrk’s Yogi Roth to talk about what helped flip the former OSU commit to the Buffs.
“It was great, of course, getting Jake,” MacIntyre said Wednesday. “We had been recruiting Jake for a long time and he had committed to Ohio State and then he called us and said that [it was] the success we had [that changed his mind] … He believed in us, but we hadn’t been winning.
“Now that we won, he (Moretti) said, ‘This is a viable opportunity to stay in state, go to a great university and we’re going to compete for championships.’ That’s why he came back.”
A10-win season and a trip to the Pac-12 Championship game not only landed Moretti, it helped deliver a top-25 recruiting class in 2017. Yes, Meyer’s Buckeyes ended up with the No. 2 class in the country, but they didn’t win this battle.
