After watching the Denver Broncos beat the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round win, then quickly learning of his injury, it’s normal to wonder what Bo Nix has been doing this offseason.
Unfortunately for Nix and the Broncos, his offseason started one or maybe even three weeks early.
It’s been almost six months to the day since Nix broke his ankle in the win. He’s been up to a lot, and the news is encouraging for the 2026 Broncos.
What Bo Nix has been doing this offseason
Following the devastating news of his injury, Nix had surgery on his broken right ankle.
The break happened on the third-to-final play in that comeback win over the Bills in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, and head coach Sean Payton announced Nix was done for the season while Broncos Country was still elated.
Jarrett Stidham started the AFC Championship Game and fumbled it away, all while the Denver defense injured Drake Maye’s throwing shoulder. Oh, and it snowed a bit too.
Nixed missed the AFC Championship both as a player and a fan.
Per Jeff Legwold of ESPN, Nix had ankle surgery on Jan. 19, 2026, two days after he was masterful in the win over Buffalo, led by 2024 NFL MVP Josh Allen.
Allen turned the ball over four times in the game, while Nix threw for the same amount of touchdowns (3) and more yards than Allen did.
In April, Nix had a second surgery to clean up bone spurs but then participated in mini-camp in June.
“Just wanted to go ahead and get [the spurs] out of the way for good,” Nix explained a month ago. “The doctors told me that the ankle looks good as new. We’re right back to normal.”
“He’s doing well, he’s doing really well,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said after practice in mid-June. “He’ll clearly be ready in time for training camp. … It’s good to have him out here in uniform.”
As our Cody Roark noted, Nix upgraded to 7-on-7s as the Broncos wrapped up minicamp and continued to progress toward being healthy for the 2026 season.
Now, we have the best video footage yet that the Broncos quarterback will be good to go.
New video shows Bo Nix moving well, throwing with power
Earlier in the offseason, a video posted by the Broncos quarterback on his own Instagram showed him running well.

That understandably got people excited.
Now, a new video shows exactly what Bo Nix has been doing in preparation for the 2026 season.

What we see from this is Nix taking “shotgun” snaps, quickly pivoting and firing to his receiver, and a lot more. He’s throwing short outside, short and intermediate over the middle—where he’s notably struggled—and we see the 26-year old put everything he has into a deep shot.
Veterans report to training camp in Dove Valley on July 28, but Nix looks like he’s ready to strap on the pads and helmet today.
Both FOX and ESPN are calling the quarterback the Broncos X-factor going into the season. And it makes sense. If Nix takes a step forward, even if it’s a small one, Denver is a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Their defense is elite and Nix rarely takes sacks or turns the ball over, all while occasionally making an eye-popping play.
