As the Denver Broncos kick off the first week of Phase III of the team’s offseason program this week, will Courtland Sutton make his return to the field?
Will Courtland Sutton appear at Denver Broncos OTAs this week?
Broncos veteran wide receiver Courtland Sutton has seemingly held firm so far on not attending the team’s offseason program as he holds out in hopes of receiving a new contract. Coming off of a 10-touchdown career-high season, Sutton wants more guaranteed money and is entitled to that.
He’s been on the roster since 2018 and has had to deal with a revolving door of head coaches, offensive coordinators, and quarterbacks, but has always maintained his ability to be a big-play wide receiver.
Sutton has two years remaining on his current deal but has no more guaranteed money left on the books. Despite being the subject of trade interest from the teams, the Broncos have held onto him and haven’t entertained other team’s interest.
So, where do they go from here? Which side budges? Will Sutton appear at OTAs this week, or will he continue to hold out until the next big appearance deadline of mandatory minicamp on June 11-13?
Similar to what we saw the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders do with Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs last offseason, Denver could give him some more guaranteed money on his current remaining deal.
Despite not appearing for the team’s voluntary offseason program, Sutton has been training extensively in Florida and staying in great shape, per sources.
With the team taking the field this week for OTAs, it will be important for Sutton to build chemistry with Bo Nix, Zach Wilson, and Jarrett Stidham sooner rather than later.
The Denver Broncos are far better off with Sutton than they are without him, despite the receiver room featuring Tim Patrick, Josh Reynolds, Marvin Mims, Troy Franklin, Devaughn Vele, Brandon Johnson, Jalen Virgil, Lil’Jordan Humphrey and others.
