On a day in which he found himself on his backside on more than one occasion, Evan Mathis proved that he at least has a sense of humor about it.

With the clock winding down in the first quarter of Sunday’s 17-15 win over the Chicago Bears, Mathis was absolutely flattened by Bears defensive tackle Bruce Gaston. The resulting play was a sack of Brock Osweiler and a loss of seven yards for the Broncos on third down.

The sack was one of five on the day for a total of 31 yards, one of the few major deficiencies Denver showed in its first game with Osweiler at the helm. It also happened to be Osweiler’s 25th birthday, something Mathis didn’t forget postgame when he tweeted the fourth-year quarterback some well-wishes.

Mathis may have lost a step, but he certainly hasn’t lost his sense of humor. Although something tells us this tweet never would have happened if the Broncos hadn’t pulled out the victory.

And take notice of who’s the first one to help Osweiler to his feet after the play, not to mention who was right there by his side when accepting the game ball postgame.
