The Denver Broncos have until May 3 to pick up the fifth-year option on cornerback Bradley Roby. While a decision may not be made until near that deadline, the decision is expected to keep Roby in orange and blue through at least the 2018 season.
According to Mike Klis of 9News, the Broncos are expected to exercise Roby’s option. If they do, his $8.562 million salary for the 2018 season would be guaranteed against injury only.
The Broncos selected Roby out of Ohio State with 31st overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. He has played in all 16 games in each of his three seasons in Denver. In 2016, the 24-year-old made 39 tackles, defended eight passes, forced one fumble and had tow interceptions, both of which he returned for touchdowns.
A member of the Broncos’ vaunted “No Fly Zone,” Roby is the team’s third cornerback, sitting behind Chris Harris Jr. and Aqib Talib. Despite only starting in four games in 2016, he still has carved out a valuable role with the team. Denver has had the top pass defense in each of the last two seasons.
