Brock is not back. At least not Brock Osweiler, and at least not yet.
But the Broncos will be signing a Brock for the 2018 season, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network… cornerback Tramaine Brock.
Brock is an eight-year NFL veteran who played last season with the Minnesota Vikings after spending the first seven years of his career in San Francisco. He played in 11 games during the regular season and two postseason games for Minnesota, logging eight combined tackles and one pass defended for the season.
Now 29, Brock made his NFL debut against the Denver Broncos in October 2010 after going undrafted out of Belhaven University that year.
For his career, Brock has 189 combined tackles (164 solo), three forced fumbles, 11 interceptions and one touchdown. He recorded a career-high five interceptions in 2013.
Brock was a full-time starter for the 49ers in 2015 and ’16, but played just 7.6 percent of the Vikings’ defensive snaps last season. He contributed on 39 percent of their special teams snaps in 2017.
The Broncos were in need of another cornerback after trading Aqib Talib to the Los Angeles Rams on March 8.
It seems unlikely that Brock would be a one-to-one replacement for Talib. Certainly Brock isn’t the same caliber player as Talib, a five-time Pro Bowl nominee. He will likely play the nickel corner position with Chris Harris Jr. and Bradley Roby claiming the top two corner spots for Head Coach Vance Joseph.
Brock does brings off-field concerns like Talib, though.
San Francisco released the cornerback in April 2017 after he was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence in California. The charges were later dropped.
The reported signing comes just one week after Broncos defensive lineman Adam Gotsis was arrested in Georgia on charges of rape stemming from an alleged 2013 incident while he was at Georgia Tech.
Brock’s deal for one year and worth $4 million, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
As for the other “Brock” that Broncos fans have known over recent years, Osweiler remains a free agent.
