Denver Broncos outside linebacker Nik Bonitto has spent plenty of time this offseason giving back to the community through his Bonitto Family Foundation. Over the summer, he and collaborating community partners have raised money to help fight childhood hunger across the Rocky Mountain West.

Denver Broncos OLB Nik Bonitto, Safeway and Albertsons raise $340k to fight childhood hunger

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Nik Bonitto makes a living off of sacking quarterbacks, and in his spare time, he’s helping sack childhood hunger.

This summer, Bonitto spent extensive time in the community partnering with Albertsons and Safety to help tackle childhood hunger. Together, they have helped raise nearly $340,000 to help combat childhood hunger here in Denver. Bonitto, his community partners, and his foundation raised the funds over the course of a three-week fundraiser.

His foundation released an official statement on Wednesday morning.

“The fundraiser, launched in partnership with All-Pro Linebacker Nik Bonitto, the Bonitto Family Foundation and Food Bank of the Rockies, raised funds from July 22 through Aug. 11 to support weekend meal programs serving children and families across the region. Food
Bank of the Rockies will receive $100,000, with additional grants supporting local food banks and hunger-relief organizations serving communities across Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Utah.”

The funds raised will support Food Bank of the Rockies and other organizations that will provide meals for children when school is out. The fundraiser supports programs that provide food for children over weekends and school breaks, including Food Bank of the Rockies’ Totes of Hope® program and other backpack initiatives. For many children, these programs provide a reliable source of nutrition when school cafeterias close for the weekend.

“This campaign showed what can happen when people team up to tackle hunger,” said Nik Bonitto, founder of the Bonitto Family Foundation and All-Pro linebacker. “Customers, communities and partners made a real impact for kids across the region. I’m proud of what
we accomplished together, and these funds will help make sure more children have the nutrition they need to learn, grow, and stay in the game.”
