The Colorado Buffaloes football team just took yet another tough blow as junior wide receiver Juwann Winfree is out for the entire 2016 season due to a torn ACL.
Winfree suffered the injury in one-on-one drills.
Winfree’s career began at Maryland in 2014. He then transferred to Coffeyville Community College (Kansas) where he had a successful sophomore year, as he recorded 55 receptions for 837 yards and seven touchdowns before making the move to Boulder in February.
The Buffaloes were excited about the big wideout, as he stands at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds and was expected to be a starter alongside Shay Fields and Devin Ross, giving Sefo Liufau a great combination of size and speed.
The injury was reported by the team Friday evening with a released statement from head coach Mike MacIntrye:
“We all really feel for Juwann. He is a phenomenal young man and has fit in really well on our team. Unfortunately this is what can happen in football. But Juwann is a very positive young man and no doubt will work hard in his rehabilitation and will be back for 2017.”
After using his redshirt for the 2016 season, Winfree will still have two years of eligibility left starting in 2017.
