The Colorado University football program will be without a potentially key player heading into the 2015 season. Freshman Ty Gangi from Glendale, Calif. has decided to transfer to Ventura College in California.
After the conclusion of spring practices, CU head coach Mike MacIntrye previously said that Gangi was leading the pack when it came to becoming the Buffs’ holder on extra-point and field goal attempts.
The University of Colorado confirmed with BuffZone.com that Gangi will be transferring to Ventura College to compete for a starting quarterback position, something he was not able to do in Boulder. As a walk-on quarterback, he was the last player in any position to compete for a starting quarterback role.
Currently, CU has four players with scholarships that are able to play the quarterback position, meaning that Gangi would have seen little to no time playing in that role on the roster.
CU has multiple bodies competing for the kicker role, righty Chris Graham, true freshman kicker righty Alex Kinney and lefty Diego Gonzales. Whoever earns the placeholder role on the roster will need to be able to handle holding from either side.
The Buffs are replacing Will Oliver at kicker and Darragh O’Neill who punted in addition to placeholder duties.
