The Colorado Buffaloes just seem to play better at home, and a homecoming game it was as the Buffs improve to a record of 3-0 at Folsom Field and 5-2 overall, beating the Arizona State Sun Devils by a score of 40-16.
The Arizona State Sun Devils have been getting carved up by offenses this year as they came into the game giving up 493.7 yards a game. Saturday would be no different.
The Buffaloes welcomed back quarterback Sefo Liufau to the starting lineup for what is his last homecoming game, and it was a great game for him. He finished 23-31 for 365 yards and ran for a TD.
Bryce Bobo had the first 100-yard receiving game of his career finished with six receptions for 110 yards.
Arizona State came into the game as the nation’s No. 5 rush defense. Phillip Lindsay had other things in mind as he continued his stellar season, finishing with 26 carries for 219 yards and three TDs on the day.
With the offense having so much success, it’s normal to overlook the defense but the Buffaloes defensive unit has been playing well all season.
The defensive line applied pressure all night as Jimmie Gilbert finished with six tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles. He leads the nation in forced fumbles.
Colorado hopes to take this dominance on the road as they face off against hometown standout, Christian McCaffrey and Stanford Saturday at Stanford Stadium.
This was Colorado’s first ever win over Arizona State. ASU now leads the series 7-1.
Phillip Lindsay had his longest run of his career with a 75-yard TD run to open the second half.
Laguda got his first career interception.
Liufau has now gone 121 passes without a interception. He is the first player in CU history to have three 100+ streaks without one.
Arizona State Kicker, Zane Gonzales made his 92nd field goal. (FBS Career Field Goal Leader also became FBS Career Scoring Leader by a Kicker).
Attendance for Colorado’s homecoming game: 48,588, which is the highest in five years.
