The Denver Broncos roster increased to 71 players on Monday after the team added a long snapper into the mix to compete with Mitchell Fraboni this summer.

Denver Broncos add competition for Mitchell Fraboni at long snapper

Usually, it’s a good thing when you don’t hear the name of the long snapper during the regular season, and that was the case for Mitchell Fraboni in 2024.

Even though Fraboni had a terrific season last year, playing in all 17 games for the second consecutive year. Going into 2025, it appears Fraboni will have some competition for his job as Darren Rizzi takes over the Denver Broncos special teams unit.

On Monday, the Broncos signed fellow long snapper Zach Triner, who will be entering his 7th year in the NFL. Triner spent 2024 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins, appearing in nine total games last season.

Triner’s veteran experience is an element that’s expected to push Fraboni in competition, whereas Fraboni has developed into a strong veteran himself, but has youth on his side.

Fraboni has 16 tackles in three seasons, and Triner has 10 career tackles in six seasons.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton has added competition at the special teams position in each of his last two seasons, with there being a kicker competition in 2023, a punter competition last training camp, and now a long snapper competition going into this upcoming season.

Broncos receive International Player Pathway designation for second consecutive year

For the second consecutive season, the Denver Broncos have received the International Player Pathway designation for tight end Thomas Yassmin, who had the same exemption last season.

Yassmin will not count against the Broncos’ 90-man roster or practice squad roster if he lands on there during the 2025 NFL season.

He’ll get more of an opportunity to rotate in during training camp with the second and third team offense during training camp and the preseason.
