The Denver Broncos recently had Patrick Surtain II, Marvin Mims, and Nik Bonitto selected to the NFL Pro Bowl Games as starters. As end-of-the-year voting begins, the NFLPA All-Pro lists have come out, and Denver has two players earning high honors.

Denver Broncos CB Patrick Surtain II, Returner Marvin Mims earn NFL All-Pro Honors

For the third consecutive year, Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II has taken home the honor of being named to the NFLPA First-Team All-Pro list. The NFLPA All-Pro voting is conducted by players around the NFL.

For Surtain, he was voted a First-Team All-Pro by other players at his position and the positions he went against this year. This means that cornerbacks and wide receivers voted Surtain as one of the best in the league. The fact that he’s been voted as a First-Team All-Pro for three consecutive seasons speaks volumes about how he’s perceived around the league, which could heat up his NFL Defensive Player of the Year campaign even further.

Right now, he’s the odds-on favorite at various betting sites for the award, and he’s got the strongest campaign at a position that’s the toughest to play in the NFL.

For the first time this season, Surtain has company from a Broncos standpoint — punt return specialist Marvin Mims joins him as a First-Team All-Pro returner, as voted on by players around the NFL. This is Mims’ first recognition.

Surtain ranks first this season amongst NFL cornerbacks with at least 400 coverage snaps, per NFL Next Gen Stats.

  • Fewest Yards Allowed (306)
  • Fewest Yards Allowed Per Coverage Snap (0.6)
  • Lowest Target Rate In Coverage (10.9%)
  • Fewest Air Yards Per Target (7.1)
  • Targeted EPA (-24.0) – net expected points added allowed when the player was targeted as the nearest defender.
  • Fewest tackles missed (0)

His Defensive Player of the Year case is one of the strongest from a defensive back in a handful of years.

Mims led the NFL this season in punt return yards with 408 yards and an average of 15.7 yards per return, according to Pro Football Reference.

This Broncos team is receiving a lot of worthy praise and recognition. That will expand if they can find a way to upset the Buffalo Bills on Sunday in the Wildcard Round of the NFL Playoffs.
