The Denver Broncos have found Sean Payton his ‘Joker’ in NFL Free Agency, agreeing to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars former weapon. Bo Nix now has a legitimate pass-catching threat at the position this upcoming season.
Denver Broncos hosting TE Evan Engram on free agency visit
Back in the day when NFL Free Agency began, teams used to host players all the time before signing players to deals. The game has changed a little bit with how things operate today, but the Denver Broncos went back in time and hosted Evan Engram for a visit on Sunday evening and showed him the team facility on Monday.
ICYMI: Denver Broncos re-sign D.J. Jones to three-year deal
He left on Monday without a deal and then proceeded to visit the Los Angeles Chargers, but ultimately signed with the Broncos on Wednesday. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, it’s a two-year deal worth up to $23M that includes $16.5M fully guaranteed at signing.
Engram’s 6’3 size, and his athleticism combined with him being 240 pounds is something the Broncos don’t have at the tight end position. He immediately becomes the best player at the position and all of his medicals have checked out after he had shoulder surgery last season.
In 2023, Engram caught 114 passes on 143 targets for Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars, hauling in four receiving touchdowns and finishing with 963 yards in 17 games.
Before his injury last season, Engram had 47 catches in nine games for the Jaguars before his shoulder injury shut his season down. His name was also thrown out around before the NFL Trade Deadline before his injury.
Now, Bo Nix has a flashy offensive weapon to throw to alongside players like Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, Troy Franklin, and Devaughn Vele with the arrival of Engram. He bumps up to the top of the Broncos tight end position with Adam Trautman, Nate Adkins, and Lucas Krull sitting behind him.
