It’s been a busy day for the Denver Broncos just days away from their season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. The team announced their captains for the 2024 NFL season with Bo Nix and Patrick Surtain II headlining the group on offense and defense.

Denver Broncos name their team captains for 2024

There’s been a lot of change and newness to this year’s Denver Broncos team amidst all of the offseason changes. Simultaneously, these changes have also created a lot of intrigue with the perception of this team and their potential direction.

On Wednesday morning prior to practice, the team officially announced their captains for the 2024 season with all of the selections being voted on by the players themselves.

Bo Nix, Courtland Sutton, Quinn Meinerz, Patrick Surtain II, Alex Singleton, and Wil Lutz are the six players the team voted on the most to lead the way this upcoming season.

Nix is preparing for his first career NFL start in the regular season, and teammates voting him as a captain makes him the first rookie captain since Hall of Famer Floyd Little, who was voted as a captain in the 1967 season.

Sutton becomes an even bigger voice inside of the locker room as the team’s leading receiver, where he’ll continue to carry the mantle of leadership for players like Marvin Mims, Devaughn Vele, Troy Franklin, and even veteran Josh Reynolds.

“He’s a big guy for us, a real leader,” Reynolds said earlier this week. “[He] has seen a lot of ball, so it’s awesome to be able to have that conversation with him about just everything: defense, players, schemes. Being able to talk to him about what he sees compared to what I see, it’s awesome.”

Meinerz gets voted as a captain just a month after receiving a well-deserved contract extension and is a building block piece for this roster.

Surtain becomes the veteran voice of the defense and is also going to be a long-term fixture on this roster after his historic contract extension on Wednesday morning.

Five of the six Broncos captains for this season are first-time captains in Denver, but four of the six captains for this year’s team have also graced the cover of our Mile High Sports magazine.

The Broncos will practice here at 12:20 p.m. this afternoon, and media availability will follow at 2:15 p.m.
