After going into Week 1 of the NFL season relatively healthy, the Denver Broncos are dealing with some injuries this week as they prepare for their home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, including losing their rookie running back Audric Estime for four weeks.
Denver Broncos Wednesday Injury Report
The Denver Broncos will be without rookie running back Audric Estime for the next four weeks after he suffered an ankle injury on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, which landed him on injured reserve. Denver promoted fullback Michael Burton to the 53-man roster from the practice squad in a corresponding move.
Veteran wide receiver Josh Reynolds and rookie wide-out Devaughn Vele were both spotted on the team’s side field without helmets. Joining them was an extensive list of players like center Luke Wattenberg, offensive tackle Garett Bolles, and Estime. The other players on the side field were Damarri Mathis, Delarrin Turner-Yell, and Drew Sanders.
Below is the official injury report from the Broncos and from the Pittsburgh Steelers following Wednesday’s practices.
Broncos injury report:
- Offensive tackle Garett Bolles – ankle – did not participate.
- Wide receiver Josh Reynolds – Achilles – did not participate.
- Wide receiver Devaughn Vele – ribs – did not participate.
- Running back Audric Estime – ankle – did not participate (IR).
- Center Luke Wattenberg – ankle- did not participate.
- Outside linebacker Jonah Elliss – knee- limited.
Bolles had an MRI and X-Ray after Sunday’s game but both of those results came back clean, as Payton told us on Monday. He’s got a bruise. It will be worth monitoring throughout the week.
Reynolds had some Achilles soreness pop up during OTAs and training camp that held him out for a limited amount of time. His status will be important to monitor on Thursday and Friday, as well as Wattenberg with the ankle injury.
If Wattenberg is somehow unable to go on Sunday, Alex Forsyth would step in and likely start at center. Matt Peart would likely fill in for Bolles if he was unable to go.
Vele’s injury is also worth monitoring considering the team added Kaden Davis to the practice squad at the position.
Steelers injury report:
- Quarterback Russell Wilson – calf – limited.
- Offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. – ankle – did not participate.
- Offensive guard Isaac Seumalo – pectoral – did not participate.
- Defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi – knee – limited.
- Wide receiver Roman Wilson – ankle – limited.
- Cornerback Darius Rush – concussion – limited.
