The Denver Broncos made a roster move right before the start of Wednesday’s practice, bringing back a former standout wide receiver who was with the team during 2022’s training camp.

Denver Broncos sign former training camp standout Kaden Davis to practice squad

Kaden Davis was always the first player out on the practice field during training camp in 2022 and made a handful of plays in practice and during the preseason. Unfortunately for him, Denver’s overall depth at the position made it hard for him to secure a spot on the 53-man roster that season.

On Wednesday, the Broncos announced that they had signed Davis to the team’s practice squad, and he was spotted during the open media viewing portion of the afternoon.

For the past two years, Davis has floated around between the Arizona Cardinals and more recently the Detroit Lions during training camp and the preseason. Davis was one of four players who were in the building on Tuesday for tryouts, and he was the one player who impressed enough to get a spot on the team’s practice squad.

As a member of the Lions during the preseason, Davis hauled in five catches for 96 yards and one touchdown. He also has the ability to play special teams and could see time there early on.

Right now, Denver’s current wide receiver depth on the 53-man roster features Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds, Marvin Mims, Devaughn Vele, and Troy Franklin. Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Michael Bandy currently make up the two other receivers on the team’s practice squad.

We’ll hear from Broncos head coach Sean Payton following practice this afternoon where we may gain some insight into why the team made the move, and as Payton will likely address some of the injuries the team is currently dealing with after their Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
