Drew Lock is on fire.
At least, he was last Sunday.
Lock has been looked at as the quarterback of the future for the Broncos since he was drafted in the second round last year. And in the win over the Carolina Panthers, the young gun-slinger showed supporters and critics alike exactly what his potential ceiling is.
As he sliced and diced the Panthers’ defense, Lock set personal highs and even a Broncos’ franchise record. He connected on 21-of-27 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns — including two bombs — and didn’t throw a single interception. That factored out to a 149.5 passer rating, the highest of his career and the highest in a road start by any Broncos quarterback in the storied franchise’s history.
Outside of his early fumble which was nearly returned for a touchdown, Lock was down-right magical in the Broncos win over Carolina. He avoided sacks and connected with multiple tight ends on the run. He processed quickly and found open receivers in the back of the end zone and the middle of the field. And on those deep balls, Lock set his feet well before launching deep touchdowns which was a good sign considering his footwork issues up to this point.
All that success earned Lock FedEx Air Player of the week, his first such award. It also earned him his first ELITE Sportsbook Athlete of the Week award as well.
