Colorado State University finished a 7-0 victory at UNLV to close their 2016 season with the work of senior Holly Reinke and her career’s first no-hitter.
Reinke’s no-hitter is the second for the CSU Rams since 2010.
Reinke gave up no hits with two strikeouts over the seven-inning shutout to help accomplish CSU’s first league sweep away from the friendly confines of Fort Collins since they won three consecutive contests at New Mexico in 2013.
Reinke allowed three baserunners all game, giving up only two walks. The other baserunner reached on a came on an infield error by the Rams.
“I’m still in shock, I knew the team would perform well, as we had won the first two games of the series,” Reinke said. “For us seniors, we just wanted to leave it all out there and have no regrets about our final game.”
All of the seniors played their roles in CSU’s victory against UNLV. Savannah Clark started off the Rams’ offense with a solo home run, which put the team up 3-0 in the second inning.
In the fifth inning Manzaneres and Kristina Akiona brought the score up to 5-0 with a solo home runs of their own.
Akiona put an exclamation point on the game with another home run in the sixth inning that brought the Rams lead to 7-0.
Maci Stouffer, the team’s designated player in her final game at CSU, registered a pair of hits.
CSU had 11 hits as a team, with five players tallying two each.
CSU’s seniors put on a great show as the Rams swept UNLV with a no-hitter to close their 2016 season.
“I have to give a lot of credit to my girls.” Reinke said. “A no hitter is a team effort and the defense was fantastic.”
