Finally, the Colorado Buffaloes can exhale.
What a week it has been for the players and seniors of the Colorado Buffaloes Men’s Basketball team. It all started with a huge win on Wednesday against No. 9 Arizona that helped CU’s NCAA tournament chances, and it culminated with a much-needed 79-69 victory over the pesky Arizona State team at the Coors Events Center.
But even with tournament seeding on the line, this wasn’t just your normal, late-season victory; it was a victory on Senior Night.
In front of a packed and emotional crowd, seniors Xavier Talton, Eli Stalzer, Brett Brady and Josh Scott all participated in their last home game at the Coors Event Center, capping of their year with an impressive 16-1 record at home.
Before the game, the seniors gave speeches about their experiences at Boulder: the good times, the bad times, the wins and the losses.
And then it happened, the moment we have NOT been waiting for. Josh Scott gave a heartwarming speech about him having to leave us. And tears were exchanged. Lots of them.
Let’s clear our eyes and get into the game.
The Buffaloes went with the usual starters in this game, as Stalzer and Brady had the chance to start in their final home game but refused, stating that they were more concerned about ensuring that the team got the win — this is a special bunch, it truly is.
In a tightly contested game, Fortune led all scorers with 17, but it was Scott who stole the night.
Coming off one of the best games of his storied career at Boulder, Scott delivered, yet again, puttting the finishing touches on a remarkable career at CU. He finished with 15 points, six rebounds and two assists.
It was a very emotional day for him, and it was a victory he wanted to walk away with.
“XT (Xavier Talton) texted me that we’re going to go out as winners, that’s the goal,” Scott said.
And that’s exactly what they did. We will miss these seniors, these winners.
