Remember when your parents would spell out words because they were trying to protect you from what they were s-a-y-i-n-g?
We’re starting to feel like parents when relaying the practice participation report, especially regarding the Broncos offensive line.
More than half the offensive line starters from Week 1 haven’t practiced even close to fully in Weeks 4 and 5.
That’s s-c-a-r-y.
Ty Sambrailo, who missed last Sunday’s game against Minnesota with a shoulder injury, missed his fifth consecutive practice and second this week. His replacement at left tackle, Ryan Harris, is listed with a knee and was limited Wednesday. He was reportedly given a pseudo day of rest on Thursday.
“We’re just trying to get some of these veteran guys a break,” said Kubiak. “Ryan took portions of practice, like the end of practice and the beginning of practice, but the padded part of practice, he did not take. That’s where that came from.”
Evan Mathis, who missed time at practice last week, was out again on Wednesday with a hamstring and was limited on Thursday.
Louis Vasquez missed Wednesday’s practice both last week and this week with a knee, but participated fully last Thursday. He was limited this Thursday.
Wednesday’s absences for Mathis and Vasquez were tabbed officially with hamstring and knee issues, respectively, but were also part of scheduled rest for the two veterans.
Both Mathis and Vasquez played in all of Denver’s 61 offensive snaps against Minnesota, however, so we’re hoping this is a “smoke screen” and not a “where there’s smoke there’s fire,” situation.
