Senior wide receiver Michael Gallup has been named a consensus All-American by the NCAA, becoming the fourth CSU football player to achieve that status.
The Monroe, Ga., native joins DL Mike Bell, S Greg Myers and WR Rashard Higgins as CSU’s all-time consensus All-Americans. A football student-athlete earns the consensus distinction by being named a first-team All-American by a majority of the five major organizations recognized by the NCAA.
Gallup earned first-team recognition from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the Walter Camp Football Foundation. James Washington of Oklahoma State was a unanimous choice (first team on all five ballots), while Anthony Miller of Memphis joined Gallup with two first-team nods, enabling Gallup and Miller to share the second wide receiver spot on the consensus All-America list.
Gallup, a Biletnikoff Award finalist, received second-team All-America recognition from the Associated Press and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
The Butler County Community College product was the first player in the FBS to reach 1,000 yards receiving this year, and enters the postseason with 1,345 yards on 94 receptions with seven touchdowns.
He has six 100-yard games this season, and is one of just two FBS players with multiple 200-yard outings. In a three-week span, Gallup went for 212 yards and a touchdown at Hawai’i and 263 yards—the fourth-most by any FBS player this season—and three touchdowns against Nevada.
Overall, the Rams have 27 All-Americans in their history. Gallup is the ninth CSU player to be named a first-team All-American.
Gallup earned first-team All-Mountain West honors and has accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl.
The Rams will play Marshall in the 2017 Gildan New Mexico Bowl at 2:30 p.m. MT on Dec. 16 in Albuquerque, N.M. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
