The Denver Broncos are sitting in a position where they can approach the NFL Draft with luxury and not necessarily selecting for need. In NFL Network draft analyst Chad Reuter’s latest mock draft, the Broncos snag second-year quarterback Bo Nix, a lengthy and versatile receiving target.

Denver Broncos take Colston Loveland in latest mock draft

We’re just two weeks away from the NFL Draft taking place, and the Denver Broncos will be on the clock with the 20th overall pick. In Chad Reuter’s latest mock draft, he has Sean Payton giving Bo Nix another tight end who the team could unleash in the red zone this upcoming season.

Reuter has the Broncos taking Michigan tight end Colston Loveland. Loveland, if available at 20, would be a great pickup for the Broncos’ offense and is one of the three players I mentioned earlier this week that Denver should draft if available at 20th overall.

In his reasoning, Reuter stated that adding a tight end might be the better choice for Payton and the Broncos and that it would ultimately be a tough choice between running back Omarion Hampton and Loveland in his scenario.

“It might be a tough call for the Broncos to choose between Loveland and running back Omarion Hampton if both are available,” Reuter said. “I’ll go with the agile, sure-handed Loveland to team up with Evan Engram, who turns 31 in September and is coming off shoulder surgery, as a nice tight end duo with whom quarterback Bo Nix can continue to grow.”

I can’t recall the last time the Broncos had two really impactful receiving tight ends, but Loveland and Engram together give them the best odds to achieve that.

At 6’5, 245 pounds, Loveland has the height and athleticism at that weight to be a possession tight end on third down, can have an impact in the yards after catch department, and his size makes him a favorable red zone target in the NFL.

In 2024 at Michigan, Loveland had 56 catches for 582 yards and five total touchdowns for the Wolverines, who were a run-heavy team last season, finishing with 2282 yards as a team.

While the Broncos are looking to revamp their rushing offense, giving Nix a weapon like Loveland alongside Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, Evan Engram, and developing players like Troy Franklin makes the Denver offense look even better on paper.

After this, there’s only one week remaining for mock drafts to run their course, and then the real thing will be here.

Where do you think the Broncos will lean?
