The 2019 NFL Draft is just two weeks away and one of the biggest storylines heading into the selection process is what the Arizona Cardinals will do with the first overall pick.
Rumors have been swirling over the past few months that Arizona could select former Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray with the first overall selection. By selecting Murray, the Cardinals would be adding their quarterback of the future, while also presenting a dilemma on what to do with Josh Rosen.
According to James Palmer of NFL Network, the Denver Broncos have no interest in trading for Rosen right now, which makes sense considering they had a chance to draft him just last season. The Broncos decided to draft pass rusher Bradley Chubb instead as Palmer also mentions how Denver still views Joe Flacco as their quarterback moving forward.
Arizona selected Rosen last season 10th overall after moving up five slots to draft him. The Cardinals traded their first-round pick (15th) overall, third-round pick and fifth-round pick to move up and get what looked to be their quarterback of the future. Fast-forward one year and that might not be the case anymore as Arizona brought in Kliff Kingsbury to be their head coach, who also just so happens to be a huge fan of Murray.
A little over a month ago, Kliff Kingsbury said he’d take Kyler Murray with the first overall pick if he could.
Kingsbury is now the HC of the #Cardinals and they have the No. 1 pick.
How that all fell perfectly into place is hilarious. Obviously Arizona doesn’t need a QB. pic.twitter.com/YwB4zJyQS2

In his rookie season with the Cardinals, Rosen threw for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Rosen actually had a fairly successful rookie season considering he was dealing with a new coaching staff, a poor offensive line, and a limited number of skill players. All things considered, Rosen was decent in 2018, which makes it fascinating how Arizona is ready to move on from him and how Denver is not interested at all.
The Broncos are still doing their research on other “big” quarterbacks in this years class (Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock), so not having any interest in Rosen is interesting. Adding Rosen would immediately give the Broncos their quarterback of the future and a player that could step in right away when Flacco’s time in Denver is done.
The cost in trading for Rosen would also be much cheaper than what it cost Arizona to move up and get him last season. Denver’s second-round pick (41st overall) could be in play if the Broncos decided to get into the Rosen sweepstakes, which would be an enticing selection the Cardinals might just consider.
With no interest reported though, it does not seem like Rosen’s potential landing spot will be in Denver, however, it will be an interesting situation to monitor before and on draft night nonetheless.
