A few weeks back, there was amazing news out of Boulder: A former four-star quarterback recruit was transferring to the University of Colorado, and it caused a frenzy.
Despite the fact that Sheriron Jones would have to sit out a season before suiting up for the Buffs, people were excited; this type of news didn’t come often at CU.
But Colorado’s potential quarterback of the future is now a thing of the past, as CU’s head football coach Mike MacIntyre announced that Sheriron Jones had been released from his scholarship and would be returning to the University of Tennessee.
It was a definite disappointment, but it came with a silver lining …
Davis Webb.
Webb, formerly of Texas Tech, plans to compete as a graduate transfer in 2016. Announced Wednesday, he has chosen Colorado as his new school.

Although Webb had productive seasons in 2013 and 2014 at Texas Tech, he lost his starting job to Patrick Mahomes last season. In his career, Webb passed for more than 5,000 yards in parts of three seasons with the Red Raiders. He remained a favorite of the team’s coaches and players due to his hard work and leadership, and also holds a 46:22 touchdown-to-interception ratio, which could be HUGE for the Buffs.
He instantly becomes a strong contender to start for the Buffaloes due to the injury of three-year starter Sefo Liufau, who is questionable for the 2016 season because of a broken foot suffered in November.
Webb on his decision to go to the University of Colorado:
“I just know it’s a good fit with Colorado,” Webb said. “I really like what Coach Mac (Mike MacIntyre) and (OC) Coach (Brian) Lindgren are doing with the offense. I like that they are scheduled to play eight preseason Top 25 teams. I’ll have a good chance to showcase my ability on the road at Oregon and at Michigan. I will get plenty of exposure to pursue my dream of playing in the NFL.”
Colorado is 10-27 in three seasons under coach Mike MacIntyre; look for a veteran presence and winning attitude from a player like Webb, who will have the opportunity to start this upcoming year. CU will begin spring practices on March 4, and the spring game is slated for April 9 at noon. The Buffaloes open the 2016 season on Friday, Sept. 2 against Colorado State in Denver.
The good news keeps rolling in, and Webb wants to be the one to bring the Buffaloes back into bowl contention. Let’s get ready!!
