Denver Broncos second-year wide receiver Troy Franklin is in a position to play even more in 2025 and re-establish his Oregon Ducks connection with Bo Nix. He’s had a tremendous start to training camp and that was on display even further during Tuesday’s practice.

Denver Broncos WR Troy Franklin’s rising stock

Troy Franklin’s rookie training camp was entirely different than the camp he’s experiencing here going into his second season. Tuesday’s final practice in Denver before the team travels to Santa Clara on Wednesday night saw his continually impressive body of work expand.

During the Broncos’ red-zone 7-on-7 period, Bo Nix found Franklin in the back of the endzone for an impressive catch and grab for what appeared to be a touchdown. Without officials on hand, there was no confirmation or denial, but high fives from offensive players, and defensive players waving their hands incomplete painted their own unique stories on the play.

Franklin followed that up with a touchdown catch from Jarrett Stidham in the same period. Not only have Franklin’s hands been impressive, but his physicality as a blocker is something that’s been on display during practice.

In Denver’s final team period of the day, the Broncos offense faced a tie game scenario in the fourth quarter, 1:28 remaining on the clock on their own 28-yard line. Franklin was ready for the moment.

Nix fired a pass to Franklin for a first down on the first play, but two plays later, the former Ducks’ duo made the play of the day. Nix stood firm in the pocket with pressure coming from Nik Bonitto and Zach Allen, firing a shot to Franklin, who made a diving catch for a 20-yard gain to keep the chains moving, eventually leading the offense into field goal range, which would have set up a game-winner from Wil Lutz.

“They have a good feel for each other,” Broncos OC Joe Lombardi said. “Experience with a receiver really helps as a quarterback, knowing where they’re going to be. That’s really paid off. As he [WR Troy Franklin]’s learned the offense, he’s able to play naturally and that’s what Bo’s used to.”

That Oregon connection has been thriving in camp, and it’s something that should be on display more in the regular season.
