Sports can help people get through some of life’s toughest challenges. During practice Saturday morning, former Denver Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan experienced a touching moment with his grandmother, who is currently fighting cancer.
In the video posted by the Chicago Bears, head coach Matt Nagy delivers a speech, explaining how Trevathan’s grandmother has not been able to see him play in person since the linebacker signed with the Bears. So the organization decided to surprise Trevathan by flying her out to see her grandson play against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
The video is a great reminder that even the biggest and toughest of athletes are human beings, and no matter how much we care about football, family is always more important.
.@Grindin_59's grandmother, Dorothy McElroy has been battling cancer and hasn't been to Chicago to see him play due to her health challenges.
This weekend, at our #CrucialCatch game that changes. https://t.co/lIvH9cwPNZ

Trevathan played for the Broncos from 2012 through 2015, and served a crucial role on Denver’s Super Bowl winning defensive unit. In four seasons with the Broncos, Trevathan recorded 302 total tackles and had five interceptions.
