Aaron Gordon is an integral part of the Denver Nuggets and has been for the last few years.

After Jamal Murray recently signed a contract extension to stay with the Nuggets for the foreseeable future, now it looks like the organization is turning to Gordon.

The Nuggets power forward is eligible for an extension on September 27th (tomorrow) and both Gordon and general manager Calvin Booth projected confidence that an extension would get done.

“I really love this organization, a lot of players on this team, a lot of the coaching staff, so I hope we get it done,” Gordon shared.

“It seems like it’s moving forward in the right direction, so I’m excited to hopefully be extended and stay with this organization.”

Calvin Booth also discussed the possibility of a contract extension for Gordon in his presser.

“Tomorrow, 9/27, is actually the first day we will formally start negotiations. Hopefully we have some productive talks with his representation and find a deal that we’re hopefully both satisfied with. He’s been an integral part of what we’ve done and we’d like to keep him here for a long time.”

Gordon, 29, has been a member of the Nuggets championship core ever since being acquired from the Orlando Magic via trade in march of 2021. Gordon signed an extension with the Nuggets the following offseason and has become a mainstay for the team. His consistency, work ethic, and two-way prowess are self-evident, averaging 14.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game in his Nuggets tenure. If those numbers don’t leap off the page, it’s because Gordon has accepted being a role player in Denver and done so at a high level. The numbers don’t tell the full story of what Gordon means to the Nuggets on and off the court.

Gordon is entering the 11th season of his NBA career. Having played 6.5 seasons with the Magic and 3.5 seasons with the Nuggets, the starting power forward is toward the tail end of his prime. He’s still extremely productive and impactful on both ends of the floor though, and his willingness to mold his game around Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Michael Porter Jr. helped the Nuggets win their first ever championship.

With Denver’s core already assembled, there’s logic in maintaining the status quo and keeping the main group together. After losing former Nuggets starter and champion Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in free agency though, fans are understandably wary about Gordon’s impending free agency.

The Nuggets retaining Gordon would go a long way in rebuilding some faith after KCP’s departure. Nuggets fans love what Gordon has brought to the organization, and he’s
