The question on everyone’s mind heading into Game 2 of the Avalanche-Stars first round playoff series finally be answered.

“There’s a good chance Gabe Landeskog plays tonight,” Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar told Lombardi, Moser and Kane on Altitude Sports Radio at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Take that for what it’s worth, but it comes from the coach’s mouth just hours before Game 3.

Conversely, there was great speculation that Landeskog was going to play before Game 2. Ultimately, however, the Avalanche captain did not play. When asked why, Bednar explained that Landeskog was building toward his first game back since playing in the 2022 Stanley Cup Final. Landeskog wanted to get a feel for morning skate, pregame and “being in the room” heading into the pressure cooker that is an NHL playoff game.

In a saga that’s had nearly three seasons of twists and turns, it appears the plot has thickened. Barring a complete 180-degree turn from the coach’s sentiment, Landeskog will be playing in Game 3 versus the Stars.

If that turns out to be the case, it will be a welcome homecoming for one of the most loved Avalanche players of all time.
