Phillips’ contract with the Denver Broncos expires Feb. 1 and multiple reports had previously suggested that he would not return to Denver under new head coach Vance Joseph, who was introduced on Thursday.
Phillips, 69, was the Broncos defensive coordinator for two seasons under head coach Gary Kubiak, who retired at the conclusion of the 2016 season, after leading Denver to 24 wins over two seasons, including Super Bowl 50.
