After arriving on the University of Colorado’s campus just a few short months ago, Demouy Kennedy has already been wowed by how the CU Buffs’ strength and conditioning staff compares to the SEC powerhouses he’s familiar with.

“The real reason why I’m getting back? They’re working me, man. I love it though,” Kennedy said during an interview with the Life and Football Podcast. “But the difference between Bama workouts and CU workouts is like, I feel like at CU they teach more technique. They’ll actually sit there and teach you technique, they make sure you know the techniques, and they make sure you’re doing it right. That’s probably different. Either way, both of them, they’re lifting. We’re working.”
Hearing that the Colorado Buffaloes are comparing favorably to Nick Saban’s Alabama squad in any category is remarkable. Plus, statements like this should only continue to lure incoming recruits to Coach Prime’s staff.
Demouy Kennedy first arrived in Tuscaloosa ranked as the No. 35 recruit and No. 3 linebacker in the nation, per 247Sports, and quickly carved out a starring role on special teams. However, as he looked to expand that role during his junior season, he suffered a season-ending knee injury and entered the transfer portal.
Now, hearing Colorado mentioned in the same breath as Alabama will surprise some, but it shouldn’t, considering who Coach Prime has brought in to lead his strength and conditioning staff.
Prime poached Maurice Sims, who was the Associate Director of Strength & Conditioning at Georgia during the 2020 season, while he was still working for Jackson State, and he made sure to bring him along to Boulder. It’s likely that working under Kirby Smart at Georgia helped him realize how high the bar is at these SEC juggernaut programs.
As a result, the CU Buffs suddenly seem to have one of the nation’s most impressive strength teams — at least according to Demouy Kennedy.
