A team that had so much momentum through the months of June, July and even parts of August has officially entered a slide in September. The Colorado Rockies dropped their fifth game in a row Tuesday night, a 12-3 blowout at the hands of the Giants, to open their final road series of the 2016 season.
Five different Giants had two RBIs in the game, including Buster Posey, Hunter Pence and Conor Gillaspie who each homered. D.J. LeMahieu went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts, moving his NL-leading batting average to .349. LeMahieu remains two points above Daniel Murphy for the NL batting crown. With the win, the Giants retain sole possession of the final NL Wild Card spot, one game ahead of St. Louis.
The Rockies continue their final road series on Wednesday. Tyler Chatwood faces Jeff Samardzija.
