The Denver Broncos plan to tackle more than opponents this fall. They’re also tackling a big project to equip young students who need help purchasing supplies heading into the new year.

Broncos Executive Director of Community Development Allie Pisching joined Ronnie Kohrt and Aniello Piro on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 at Broncos training camp to talk about the “Stuff for Students” campaign and how fans can get involved.

“We always look for opportunities for our fans to give back to the community just as we do for our players and staff,” Pisching told Mile High Sports, “and so ‘Stuff for Students’ is our training camp school supply drive that we are hosting all open days of camp.

“The cost of school supplies is increasing for students, so in order to feel prepared going back, it costs about $150 per student to have everything they need … pencils, glue sticks, markers, notebooks. So we’re encouraging fans to not only donate items but if they would like to donate monetarily at our Volunteers for America Stuff for Students tent right outside the gates [at training camp.”

The drive is off to a great start, but more supplies are needed to keep student equipped not just at the start of the school year but all year long.

“We’re seeing a lot of donations of the markers, the crayons, the notebooks, which is great, creative stuff. That’s what I loved in school, so I’m really happy about that. And those are the items that get used the most, too, and so by halfway through the school year, most crayons are broken in half, markers don’t have caps on them. We know, we were in school, so being able to also provide some teachers and some schools with extra supplies like this in January when they’re starting fresh in the new semester, kids will still feel that excitement about going back to school.”

Fans who donate items will be entered to win daily prizes at camp.

“Every day at camp, we’re auctioning off, we’re raffling off a football signed by one of the Denver Broncos. So, if you donate school supplies or a monetary donation, stop by the tent and learn more, you can be entered to win that football. So [Saturday] was Chris Harris. Aqib [Talib was Sunday]. It’s different every day. It’s a little bit more incentive and ties into the Broncos spirit out there with our fans.”

For fans unable to make it out to camp to make a physical donation, monetary contributions are encouraged and available online.

“If anyone is interested in making a monetary donation, they can do so at Volunteers of America’s website. It’s voacolorado.org/schoolsupplies. There are also other drop-off locations. King Soopers is a great partner of this initiative, so they have drop off locations all across the state as well. That website really shows any way to donate in person as well as online.”
