With news Monday on a new future of sports gambling widespread, come many unknowns with a new world of legal sports betting.
A new scene that’s never been experienced on a widespread basis — how will sports betting change the landscape of sports? What will it even look like? And in what possible ways?
Jay Kornegay, the Vice President of the Las Vegas Hotel & Casino SuperBook, joined Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 to discuss the new changes and if Colorado could be in line to have some form of sports gambling.
“I can see it,” Kornegay said. “I think that they’ve shown that they’re very progressive and open-minded in the state, that I believe they’re going to have some form of sports wagering.”
But with the announcement coming smack dab in the middle of the technology era — comes many ways of wagering, including on a mobile phone which Kornegay says could be offered in areas cut down by state boundaries.
“The big thing would be will they offer mobile wagering? Which is a different story,” Kornegay said.
“Once you set up that mobile, it only works within the state boundaries. That means people could go to the Rockies game, could go to the Nuggets, could go to the Broncos and via their phone could make wagers on that particular game.”
Kornegay did say he believes many states will not be going down the mobile wagering route, however forms of gambling in Colorado, are potentially in the future.
“I know some states are not going to go down that road, but I can see Colorado having some form of sports gambling at their brick and mortar stores, but not the mobile.”
Kornegay states that he doesn’t foresee “sports books operating out of arenas or stadiums” anytime soon and that while legalized, the chances of stores just popping up on Broadway just as a sports book are unlikely.
