Even with the Denver Broncos “reported” acquisition of veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, that does not rule out still drafting one in next month’s draft.

Whether that comes to fruition is to be determined, but former Baylor and Auburn quarterback Jarret Sidham could be a possible target if Denver is still looking to upgrade their QB room. The Broncos reportedly met with Stidham this week at the combine, which shows there is at least some interest between John Elway and the three-year collegiate starter.

After starting one year at Baylor — in which he threw for 12 touchdowns and 1,265 yards — Stidham transferred to Auburn University after sitting out one season. Stidham ended up transferring from Baylor after they fired former head coach Art Briles, and then sat out a season to train for his next opportunity, while also taking online classes at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas.

Stidham ended up choosing Auburn over Florida and Texas A&M, which turned out well in the end after he turned in two solid seasons with the Tigers. The first of those seasons came in 2017 when Stidham threw for 18 touchdowns and a career-high 3,158 yards. Stidham also rushed for 153 yards and four scores as he was part of a run-heavy offense that featured Kerryon Johnson, now the starting running back in Detroit for the Lions.

Even though Stidham had to deal with a run-first system in 2017, he still enjoyed a solid year that transferred into his senior season. Like he did his junior year, Stidham threw for 18 touchdowns again and 2,794 yards. Stidham also rushed for three touchdowns as a senior, which he had nine total of in his college career.

What Stidham also did extremely well in college was take care of the football, as he only threw 13 interceptions in his entire career. Six was the most interceptions he threw in a single season; he does a phenomenal job of taking care of the football.

Stidham also possesses the ability to throw with tremendous accuracy, which is a big reason why he was invited to compete in Mobile at the Senior Bowl. There, Stidham had a tremendous week, which he followed up these past few days at the NFL Scouting Combine.

On Saturday, Stidham officially got to test, in which he ran a decent 40-yard dash time of 4.81 seconds. He also had the opportunity to show off his arm when throwing to receivers, doing so with ease on every route concept he was tasked to throw. Of Stidham’s quarterback group — which did not feature Drew Lock or Dwayne Haskins — he was by far the most accurate and consistent passer of the bunch.

Now, pick No. 10 would almost certainly be too high for Stidham, as that would be a spot Denver could potentially take Lock over anybody else. But, if the Broncos do not want Lock and would rather take a Devin White to fill their need at linebacker, then Stidham is certainly someone they could target in the second round.

Denver currently holds the 41st pick in the draft and if Stidham is on the board when the Broncos are on the clock, do not be shocked if Elway pulls the trigger.
